Blood Test Information
Standard Blood Test
You'll need a blood test form from your doctor or clinician.
To book an appointment at the surgery, you can:

- Book online through the NHS App or Patient Access
If you prefer to have your blood test done at the hospital, please visit the University Hospitals Sussex website
Children Under 12
You'll need a blood test form from your doctor or clinician.
You can contact the Children's Centre directly at 01903 286700 to arrange the appointment. Walk-in appointments are not available for children at the Children's Centre.
Children 12-16
You'll need a blood test form from your doctor or clinician.
A nurse will then discuss with you and your child whether it's best to have the blood test at the surgery or the hospital.
Special Blood Tests
You'll need a blood test form from your doctor or clinician.
INR/Warfarin
- These tests should be done in the morning, before the first blood collection of the day.
BNP, Zinc, Copper, Selenium, Aluminium:
These tests need to be done at the hospital.
D-dimer
This test needs to be taken and processed within 6 hours.
If you book at the surgery, ensure you have an appointment before the first collection at 11:30 am. Don't book after this time.
Alternatively, you can book directly with the hospital through their website or by phone.
Additional Tips
- Bring your blood test form with you to your appointment.
- Wear comfortable clothing with easy access to your arms.
- Eat and drink normally before your test, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
- Allow enough time for your appointment, especially if you're booking at the hospital.
